The Sk8 Coach and North County Surf Academy have teamed up to offer a 3-day experience where campers will learn to surf in the mornings and shred at the skatepark in the afternoons — all under the guidance of two of North County’s most trusted youth programs.

Meet the instructors
Duran Barr – Pro Surfer & Coach
Duran is a lifelong Carlsbad local and professional surfer with deep roots in the North County surf scene. With years of experience competing around the world and coaching youth of all ages, Duran brings unmatched ocean knowledge and a calm, confidence-building approach to teaching. As the founder of North County Surf Academy, his mission is to make surfing safe, fun, and empowering for the next generation.
Matt Suncin – Professional Skateboarding Coach
Matt is the founder of The Sk8 Coach, a youth skateboarding school known for building confidence, creativity, and community through skateboarding. With over 10 years of coaching experience — including working with national-level athletes and Olympians — Matt has helped hundreds of skaters grow both on and off the board. His positive, progression-based teaching style makes him a trusted mentor for beginners and advanced riders alike.
